Students will:
One “Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?” Magna-Tiles® Structures story set
One “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” by Eric Carle book
#1. Lay out all of the animal tiles out on the floor or the table or put them on a magnetic board.
#2. Explain to the students that you are going to read the story, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? to them. Remind them to listen closely because you are going to ask them to put the pictures of the animals in the correct order after they listen to the book.
#3. Ask the students which animal appeared first in the story (answer: brown bear). Have a student put that tile first on the table, floor or magnetic board.
#4. Ask the students which animal appeared second in the story (answer: red bird). Continue having the students put the tiles in the correct order.
#5. Once all of the tiles are in the correct order, tell the students that you are going to say the story together. As you say each animal, pick up the tile with the picture of the animal on it. For example, when you say, “brown bear, brown bear what do you see?” pick up the tile with the brown bear on it.
#6. Explain to the students that they just “read” the story with you.
Place the book and the set of tiles at a center. Allow the students to use the book to help them put the tiles in the correct order and then retell the story.
